Extremely low power touch-interface solutions designed with highly accurate analog-to-digital-converters (ADCs) for enhanced sensing performance and robust noise immunity to enhance touch and close range proximity detection.

These ultra-small, feature-rich touch controllers are optimized for a wide range of battery-powered, portable applications such as mobile phones, digital still cameras, media players, GPS, portable computers, handheld gaming devices and other consumer electronics.

Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) Sensors

Semtech’s Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) sensors accurately discriminate between an inanimate object and human body proximity. The resulting detection from these sensing products is used in portable electronic devices, such as a smartphone or wearable device, to reduce and control radio frequency (RF) emission power in the presence of a human body.

These touch sensing interfaces enable significant performance advantages for manufacturers of electronic devices with electro-magnetic radiation sources to meet stringent emission regulations criteria and SAR standards.

Touch Controllers & Promixity Sensing Devices

As part of the sensing products family, Semtech offers capacitive touch button solutions that enhance the ECO mode present in many green home electronics. Our touch button controllers are integrated with an IR decoder for automatic system wake up, thus minimizing the power consumption while in standby. The circuitry also combines the capacitive sensor with the LED driver to reduce the overall footprint. Some of the various benefits of these touch sensing interfaces include extreme sensitivity, enhanced LED operation, buzzer control for audible feedback, and advanced LED driver for visual feedback.

The capacitive touch controller ICs come in 8- and 12-channel models and support a wide range of button, slider and touch wheel capacitive sensor designs in white goods, mobile phones, media players, notebooks/netbooks, set top boxes, and other consumer and industrial electronic products.

Touch Screen Controllers

We offer fully integrated, haptics enabled resistive touchscreen controllers from Semtech that feature unique built-in proximity sensing circuitry, which enables proximity detection in applications where automatic system wake up or backlight LED dimming adjustments are required without the need for any additional components.

The ultra-low power, resistive touchscreen controllers provide best-in-class on-chip ESD protection as well as multi-touch capability on a resistive panel. Their extremely small footprint makes these controllers ideal for portable applications where power consumption and board-space are at a minimum.

IO Expanders

Semtech IO Expander products consist of General Purpose parallel Input/Output (GPIO) expanders, which are ideal for low power handheld battery powered equipment. Our IO expanders come in 4-, 8-, and 16-channels of IOs operating with a VDD range of 1.2V to 5.5V connecting easily to today’s low core voltage chipsets in battery powered handheld applications without the need for level translating circuits.
